Although
I
consider myself a Mennonite, I am currently attending a different
church. This has more to do with logistics than anything
else.
The nearest Mennonite Church is about a half an hour away
(which
is prohibitive due to gas prices) and has services really early in the
morning for us. (I can not imagine why anybody thought it was
appropriate to have such an early service) As a consequence,
we
started looking for a closer church. We found one that we
really
love. I am not sure I am ready to change my affiliation yet,
but
I do know that this church really fits us both very well and makes us
excited to go to church instead of dreading the drive there.
One of the reasons this church fits us so well is that it is a major
supporter of education. This is the denomination that started
Harvard, and locally, Wichita State University (more accurately, they
started Fairmont College which grew into WSU). The ministry
and
the congregation are both well educated and it makes for some of the
most interesting sermons I have heard.
University Congregational Church -
our current church
Mennonite Disaster Service - major
relief oganization that responds to disasters in North America.
Especially well
known for being a force for
recovery in times of disaster. The emphasis is on
concrete help rather than
prostelyzing.
Mennonite Central Committee - a
relief, service, and peace organization. They work closely with Red Cross, and
often are able to get into areas Red Cross is not, especially in
tense international situations.
Mennonite Church - the main
denomination site featuring news and information.
The Mennonite - online version of
the magazine
Mennonite Weekly Review - online
version of newspaper
Charles Stanley - for my
Mother-In-Law :D
Elroy.net - religion and politics
meet. Insightful essays
