Pregnancy & Infants

Our Bodies, Ourselves is probably the most well known book on women's health ever written.  It has been updated and was released again recently.  This should be required reading for every girl before she hits puberty.  They have an online companion website rich with information.  Chapters 21-25 are the most relevant sections for pregnant mamas.

Pregnancy Resources

Not sure if the Ovulation or Pregnancy test is positive or not?  Try Pee On a Stick.com and look at examples of the test you took and compare.

Throw out that horrible "What to Expect when your Expecting" dribble and get The Pregnancy Book by Dr. Sears.  Much better explanations of what is going on during the pregnancy & fetal development, nutrition & other pregnancy concerns, and great information on childbirth.

Childbirth Resources

Recommend Resources for Childbirths
The Birth Book by Dr. Sears has information on everything from natural births to cesarean sections.  A good, mainstream book covering all types of birthing experiences.
Birthing From Within site has article and newsletters relating information on the normal birth process.  The book is a powerful reference for childbirth.
Ina May's Guide To Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin has a lot of great stories and really does a wonderful job of helping you understand that our bodies were meant to do this.
Having A Baby, Naturally by Peggy O'Mara is a highly recommend book.  Explains the impact of interventions on your childbirth experience.
The Thinking Woman's Guide To A Better Birth by Henci Goer
Childbirth.org has info on Episiotomies, Inductions, Monitering,
Detailed article on epidurals for childbirth

Recommended Resources for dealing with Cesarean Births
Advice for
Planning a c-section  written by mothers and medical professionals
C-section support threads in the Birth & Beyond board at MDC.  The member named OnTheFence has been a huge source of support for us Natural Mamas who need c-sections.
Childbirth.org has a Cesarean Page with many links
Victorious Birth offers support for those with Cesarean and traumatic birth experiences.
Humanizing Cesarean Birth is the reflections of a Dr. examining c-sections.
Birthing From Within has a good section on dealing with the emotional aspects of a Cesarean birth.
What if I had a C-Section by Rita Ruben has been recommended to me as a good book on the facts of a c-section.

For the record, I would never in a million years recommend a c-section.  I honestly can not understand somebody who would purposely choose a c-section over a vaginal birth.  It is much riskier than a vaginal birth and the recovery is brutal.  I wish a normal birth was in the cards for me, but it isn't and I am working to heal emotionally  from the trauma of my first birth as I face this one.
